FDA Distances Itself from New HIV/AIDS Cure

Claims by a Ghanaian medical researcher, Dr Ato Duncan that, he has found cure for the HIV-AIDS disease, has been shot down by the Food and Drugs Authority, (FDA).
The state food and drugs regulator, insists it is unaware of any such cure, and so cannot guarantee the efficacy or the effectiveness of Dr. Duncan’s medicine, and has therefore advised the general public to stay away from the trial drug reportedly called Center Of Awareness (COA)-72.
A statement issued in Accra yesterday by the Authority, contained the warning.
It was signed by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Hudu Mogtare.
He warned that the Authority, has not given market authorization for any medicine that cures HIV/AIDS.
It explained that before any approval is given; the medicine is taken through vigorous scientific scrutiny of its content, packaging information and documentation to ensure that the medicine is efficacious, quality and safe for human consumption.
However, the Authority, has not taken the said drugs through any such thing, let alone approve it as a credible and potent.
He called on the public to disregard it, adding, “the FDA is the only agency responsible for the approval and granting of marketing authorization for the manufacture, importation, distribution and sale of medicines in Ghana”.
The FDA, stated categorically that it has not approved any medicine for the cure of HIV/AIDS, and therefore the general public to ignore the medicine since its safety, quality and efficacy cannot be guaranteed.
The statement reminded anyone claiming to have medicine for the cure of HIV/AIDS to secure prior approval from the FDA before marketing the product.
Meanwhile, the Authority has advised persons on Anti-Retroviral Medications to continue with their medications and not allow themselves to be swayed by false and unsubstantiated claims.
